Thanks to Aerosmith and their 'Cryin' video, navel piercings have hit the big time. Millions of women have successfully converted what is essentially a depressed scar into a masterful work of eye-appealing art.
There's never been a wider variety of rings available for your navel than there are right now; Surgical steel rings, 22ct gold plated rings, rings with charms on them, solid 14ct gold rings, acrylic, the flexible Bioplast, titanium and white gold. There's even high end market with prices pushing a $1,000+.
I have read and heard that navel piercing is a modern day phenomenon that was never practiced by earlier cultures. Maybe because they just didn't think of it?
I also read that navel piercings were around in the time of the Pharaohs.

Try to wait 2 months but 5 weeks minimum and when you change it be sure to put in a sterile ring and and do a daily cleaning of the area with Bactine or an anti-bacterial soap.
How long can I leave my navel ring out before it closes after it is healed?
Most people's belly buttons start closing up within hours of removing the ring, while others canactually go a few weeks. It's best not to remove your ring so as to eliminate any chance of it closing up on you.
